Bitumen 85/100

Bitumen 85/100, the Best  for Cold Regions

The state of penetration grade for Bitumen 85/100 depends on its temperature. Generally, the relationship between the temperature and hardness of bitumen is dependent on the type of crude oil and its refining method, and the degree of permeability of 85/100 bitumen is between 8.5 and 10 mm, which is a semi-hard bitumen with a degree of permeability and as a heavy bitumen suitable for road construction and repair.

Bitumen 85/100 is a type of bitumen that is obtained through the aeration process on the vacuum baton (the raw material of bitumen production that is taken from the bottom of the distillation tower in the vacuum of oil refineries) in bitumen making units and its degree of permeability or determining Its hardness value is between 85 and 100.

The main use of this bitumen is the production of asphalt and it is mainly used in the production of hot asphalt for surface coating. The most used type in the bitumen family is 85/100 bitumen. This bitumen is actually a raw material for other products of the bitumen family.

Application & Uses of Bitumen 85/100

Bitumen 85/100 is used for road construction; this substance is suitable for asphalt pavements with its good properties. Another usage of Bitumen 85/100 is for manufacturing of hot mix asphalt for bases and wearing courses.

Bitumen 85/100 has thermoplastic properties that act like synthetic resin and softens when heated and hardens when cooled. This product is mostly used in cold regions.

How is Bitumen 85/100 made?

The type of Bitumen 85/100 is used in the products of Insulation refinery type, which is mainly prepared and supplied from big refineries.

Bitumen 85/100 has a standard penetration grade. This material usually used for paving and it is suitable for road construction and for the production of asphalt pavements. This grade of Bitumen (85/100) is used for manufacturing of hot mix asphalt for bases. Bitumen 85/100 is manufactured from fractional / vacuum distillation of crude oil. Bitumen is produced from the vacuum residue (short residue) feedstock. Bitumen’s penetration grade is specified by the penetration and softening point test.

Bitumen 85/100 has a thermoplastic property which is used the material to soften at high temperatures and to harden at cool temperatures. This unique temperature/ viscosity relationship is important when determining the performance parameters such as the adhesion, rheology, durability and application temperatures of bitumen.

Bitumen 85/100 mode is dependent on temperature, The temperature and stiffness of Bitumen 85/100 is dependent on the type of crude oil and also its refining method.
